Tell us about yourself

My name is Sam Kelly, 18 years of age and have been racing go karts for around 3 months now. Motor racing had always been my passion and in march this year I bit the bullet and decided to save up and start my motor racing career. I am working 2 jobs and 6-7 days a week to try and support myself to be able to give myself the most competitive products to be able to propel myself up the grid and into other categories.

Proudest Sporting Achievements

My proudest achievement in my short career was finishing second at Barossa in my first race. I haven't been on the podium since but i'm learning every time and keen to keep going and be competitive and successful here in Adelaide and interstate in 2011 and beyond.

Update: The start of 2011 at Barossa I had my first win. I won all 3 races, winning by 7.5, 6.5 and 6 seconds. At the festival state cup round 1 in monarto later in 2011 I finished 3rd having great pace and had the fastest lap in the pre final.

What are you hoping to achieve

My aim is to compete in Karting through 2011 and then to move onto bigger and better things at the end of 2011 and 2012 such as Aussie Racing Cars and Formula Fords. My aim is to compete in the Australian V8 Supercar Series and/or overseas in categories like Formula BMW and the IndyCar Series in America. My dream is to race motorsport at the highest level and i'm working hard to live that dream.

How does LineBreak help

LineBreak helps not only in races with keeping me cool and refreshed but also during training to keep me comfortable no matter what the weathers like. LineBreak is great for recovery and I feel every breeze which is great after having to wear that hot suit during the race!

Wow its been a long time since ive updated! New kart as well to show off! Ive had some pretty mixed results where I finished 3rd in the first round of the festival state cup then at round 2 had a pretty bad weekend finishing up in 6th position. In round 3 I ventured up the Whyalla which turned out to be a great meeting finishing just out of a podium in 4th position. My aim is now for a top 3 finish and have been testing heaps to try and get myself up there and gain that extra edge. The latest race meeting was back up at the Barossa Go Kart Club where I was running 4th in the final with decent pace then out braked myself at the last corner, ran wide and finished in the gravel which was really disappointing.

First race for the year on the weekend and proved a great start for 2011! I won my first round and races as I was a perfect 3 from 3 finishing every race 6 seconds ahead. Hopefully the year can continue in winning ways for me as I have the first round of the SA Power series this year which will be hard as i'll be racing against state and national level competitors but i'm eager to learn and can't wait to get out there. After that I have the first round of the Festival State Cup which i'm looking forward to and will be interesting. I'll get to see how my pace is compared to the rest of the field but i'll just concentrate on doing my best and finishing every race because all points count towards the festival state cup at the end of the year and my aim is to finish in the top 5.

After the completion of the karting calender for 2010, I am filled with mixed emotions but am happy with the fact that I am out there following my dream and racing. I have continued to learn about myself and the kart including set up and how to drive. I am continuing the learn which is good. An event at the Barossa a month ago opened my eyes up to changing the kart with the track because at the end of the second heat I was second and running with first. After that I went backwards which was very disappointing as I was aiming for a podium but I learnt a lot. Things like adding a tooth on the rear sprocket and dropping tyre pressures by 5/10 psi doesn't sound like a lot but goes a long way to getting the most out of the go kart. I had a big crash as well which was my fault, I went too fast into the corner off the start of the 2nd heat, hit the rear of the kart in front, went onto my side and apparently I was upside down. I learnt from the experience and walked away from it all and raced the next day.
