Tell us about yourself

I have competed at district, regional and state level for swimming, cross country and athletics every year at high school. I have represented NSW at national all schools triathlon in Tasmania last year and placed 10th. I train every day sometimes twice a day either bike riding swimming or running and love it. Through the season (september-march) I compete nearly every weekend. I compete in a whole range of distances from 200m swim/10km bike/2km run to a 1km swim/30km bike/10km run. My favourite race is the Sydney sprint series at Kurnell.

Proudest Sporting Achievements

Representing NSW at nationals all schools triathlon and placing 10th plus also getting 3rd in the teams at Tasmania. 3rd overall at state junior series which consisted of 7 races around NSW for under 15s. 1st at state sprint championships at Kurnell for under 17s. Also being selected for the Sydney Junior Triathlon Academy.

What are you hoping to achieve

I'm hoping to make times for national series next season and also better my result at national all schools next year. In January i volunteered at the youth Olympics for triathlon and the Australian team's achievements inspired me to also represent Australia one day.

How does LineBreak help

I think your motto durability, performance and no nonsense describes me. While triathlon is still quite new for younger athletes it takes a lot of strength, endurance and patience because at 14 I'm only just starting in what my coach has said can be a long journey but while there isn't any glitz or glamour I'm willing to put in the hard yards to do well. LineBreak compression really do work and are very comfortable and it sure beats having an ice bath. So LineBreak really helps me achieve my goals by helping me to train, perform and recover more quickly so i can just get on with it.

29/07/10 (later in the day)
Found out today that i made the NSW Cross Country U18 team to go to nationals in Queensland. Very exciting news.

29/07/10
Just to let you know I am still running strong, have been training loads and the gear has been a great help especially through winter.
Have recently attended state cross country where i placed 10th out of 88 competitors and may have a chance to make the NSW state team to compete at nationals.
Last Sunday i raced Sutherland to surf which is an 11km road race where i placed 23rd out of 6434 competitors and placed 1st in the U17 category.
I now have regional athletics coming up on the 6th of August where i will be competing in the 3000m and 1500m in Canberra. I am still currently achieving Personal Bests with 9:33 for 3000m and 16:26 for 5000m.
School has been good, have yearly tests coming up in the next couple of weeks but still studying hard.

NSW ALL SCHOOLS TRIATHLON CHAMPIONSHIP
Arrived at Penrith bright and early to race NSW All Schools Triathlon Championships. Had prepared well for this race only to get sick a few days before. Was still going to give it a good go.

We had been informed the day before that due to the lake being closed (due to algae), the format for the race therefore had been changed. It would now be a 4km run up first then a 15km cycle followed by a short run to the finish. The top 30 place getters would then be put on a bus and driven to Penrith pool to complete a 600m swim time trial.
I think it put everyone on their guard because it was no longer a triathlon. It was a mass start for the run of about 90 male athletes. We were off and a very fast pace was set by the leaders who were mostly national level runners. I came off the run about 10th feeling pretty sore and fatigued and was now out on the bike to complete the cycle. Penrith is usually a fast course because it is flat and hardly any corners which cyclists love. Bike leg was pretty good, felt strong but still need to improve.
Back into transition for the short run to the finish line. I ended up 7th with the swim still to be raced.

After a 15min bus drive and a 45min wait at the pool is was time to start the time trials. They would only take top 6 to nationals so I was right on the edge and needed a good swim. Jumped in the pool to begin my swim. Was feeling very fatigued but managed to keep it together a produce a good time on 7:35 which put me into 4th position and on to nationals.
So now I am off to Adelaide on the 16th of March for the National All Schools Triathlon Championship. Can’t wait.

RACE REPORT: ILLAWARRA AUSTRALIA DAY AQUATHON
Wow there were some people at the basin this morning with over 1700 competitors and 1000’s of spectators and was looking to be a great race. I had entered the Individual Long Course in the U20 category which had a great line-up of some of the best NSWIS athletes which were in fine form. Even some Olympic athletes were in the mix so I was pretty nervous.
All U40 competitors were marshalled for the first wave which saw over 400 people line up along the harbour foreshore for a mass start. I chose to start at the southern end, although there would be some rocks it was a straighter line.
The gun went and we were off. What a washing machine but survived first 100mts to find a good line to first buoy. Kept good pace into second lap and came out of the swim in 12th place.
Out on to the run and some were flying. Found a good pace and rhythm which made for a great run seeing me come in at 11th overall out of all competitors and 4th in my age category of U20’s.
Very, very happy with race performance.
900m swim 14:18   7km run 24:36
Whoohoo!!

RACE REPORT: ILLAWARRA TRI CLUB RACE
First race for 2010 in the Illawarra Tri Club and a big turn out for the day over 55 competitors. It was a bit chilly but dry so good conditions that warmed up throughout the race.
I was in wave 2 which saw a lot of great athletes in this wave.
There was a fast pace set in the swim for the first lap but I had a good second lap and came out of the water equal first.
The run to transition is tough and tired me out but I think that hill hits everyone.
Got out on the bike leg second and had a strong first 3 laps but struggled a bit in the last 3 as back cramped (note to self, do more back stretches).
Got off the bike and felt good in the run. Kept a solid pace and was able to make good ground.
Overall 2nd out of 55.Very happy with race.

RACE REPORT: KURNELL PROTOUR
This was the last Protour to be held at Kurnell and there was a record crowd.
We were to be the first wave off. Had been down to check water conditions and there was a strong current running as the tides had been very high.
Wetsuits were not allowed so prepared for race.
Marshalled down at waters edge then in for start. Picked a start further out to allow for drag. Good Choice as I had found a good line to first buoy cos a few guys were dragged off course.
Came out of swim in great position then out on bike with chase pack.
Pack set a great pace. I found it a challenge, these guys were 19+ and strong but managed to keep in there  and have a solid bike leg. Sub 30 for 20ks.Was now on the run and legs struggled for first lap but started to feel good 2nd and 3rd laps, was able to come home strong and place 11th out of 33 ITU Elite athletes and 12th overall of 537.
Very happy with performance.

15/11/09

My racing season has now started, school certificate has finished and hard training has started. I have attached race reports from Illawarra tri club and Forster pro tour - hope you like them. Gear has been going great, a big help with recovery.

FORSTER PRO TOUR ENDURO 14/11/09
Had been looking forward to this race as it was an enduro format which is 300 swim, 8km bike, 2km run, 300m swim, 8km bike, 2km run.
The race was to begin at 1:40pm so I spent time at camp getting to know guys in N.S.W squad as I will learn a lot from them. We rode out to race together to register and set up transition.
There were heaps of people around and had already been a lot of races. The Forster Triathlon Festival is always huge with 9 races over 2 days. Had a good warm up with a run and swim.  Briefing was called and started to get nervous.
Walked down to swim start then we were off. Had a pretty good first swim but these guys are really strong - wasn’t too far off pace and managed to get on pack. Bike leg was FAST but I was feeling confident even without my big chain ring. Quick transition onto run, big hill at start was hard but kept a good pace. Back into transition to run down for 2nd swim. Much harder this time, arms and legs like jelly but much better execution of swim so was able to get on to pack again. Felt even better on this bike leg really strong in cornering and spent most time on front of pack which was tiring but fun. Then back into transition again for final run. Really had the jelly legs now but held pace and made up time and positions.
Final placing 13th out of 30 U/23 competitors and 16th in opens. Very happy with result, not up there yet but making steady progress and learning with every race.

ILLAWARA TRI CLUB 2/11/2009
I was looking forward to racing after spending most of Saturday studying for school certificate. I was a bit worried though because I didn’t have my big ring. (Had bike in at Spearman’s and shifter is broken .Have to wait for part to come in) but keen to have a crack anyway. Road out to Port Kembla to event location. Roads were a little wet but day looked pretty good. Another record turnout for ITC 74 people ready to race. I was in heat 3.
Walked down swim start a bit of swell running with couple of breaking waves. Had a good start in swim and managed to stick with Rob Battochio came out of water together but I was quicker up the hill and out of transition. First out on the bike, feeling good but I knew I was going to have to really spin especially on the down hill. Bike leg was very hazardous, lots of bikes, cars and pedestrian’s .Kept lead on bike had good transition 2 then onto run. Still in lead legs felt good but I was a bit tired from bike. Kept in front for run to bring home for 1st.2nd Alex Ball and 3rd Rob Battocchio.
Overall very happy with race .Learnt to work with what I had and not completely freak out about equipment issues. Hope I can do the job this weekend at Forster though because I am still with out my big ring, the part didn’t come in yet???Anyway I’ll do my best.

GOLD COAST WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SPRINT MAN 13/9/09
It was the grand final of the ITU Elite World Championship race featuring some of the best men and women athletes from around the world. The racing started on Wednesday 9th of September with aquathons and continued on till Sunday 13th of September. My race was the Sprint Man, it consisted of a 750m swim, 20km bike and a 5km run with age groups between 13-15 and 70-75. The race started at 8:30 with my wave the 13-15 and 16-19 starting at 8:50.

The swim was a beach start, where we ran out into the water at Runaway Bay, and we were off and swimming. I was able to use my new wetsuit that I had brought recently which worked great. I got a bit bashed around at the start and got an elbow in the eye but was able to find a good rhythm. I got out of the swim and had the best fly mount (jump on bike) ever it was perfect. The bike course was 2 laps and wasn’t very technical as it was straight up and back with a slight hill in the middle. I felt better on the bike as I have been having back problems recently. I was now off the bike and had a 1 minute gap to chase for second place. I was feeling great and ready to run fast. The run was just 1 lap out and back and I could see I was gaining on second and by half way he wasn’t that far in front of me. With about 1km left I was now right behind him coming into the finish, but he was able to make a break away and I was not able to keep with him. Came over the line strong finishing third.

Overall great result for the race. I placed 3rd out of 22 males in the 13-15 age category and 14th out of 610 in the opens. I was very happy with my run gaining 50sec on the 2nd place getter. Was a great experience racing in Queensland and against people from other countries.
Thanks to linebreak with their support with providing me gear, thanks.

CANBERRA REGIONAL ATHLETICS 7/8/09
We drove down to Canberra Thursday afternoon for an early Friday morning start. When we got to Canberra the weather was nice, it was about 16’C. I was expecting it to be much colder but we were lucky. Friday morning wasn’t very cold but it was very windy. We had a half hour drive to the AIS Stadium from where we were staying for a 9am 3km race start. I also had the 800m straight afterwards at 10am then the 1500m later in the afternoon at 2pm. I was now preparing for a hard day.

Our race was the 2nd of the morning with the 17+ girls and boys going first. I was on the line ready to race, then the gun went off and so were we, the U15’s. I led out the race closely followed by another boy. There was a strong headwind going up the back straight making it very difficult to run against. I was able to shake off the guy behind me after the 4th lap and then I was running solo for the rest. 1 lap left I was still placed first with no one insight behind me which made me very happy. I was able to come home strong with a good sprint to hopefully do a good time. Coming down the last straight in first felt great. Over the line 1st and 200m the gap.

The 800m was on straight after and I was still very sore. There were a lot of competitors in this race and it was going to be fast. There were two people to a lane in every lane. We were off and racing, everyone was sprinting like it was the 100m final, I noticed I was then falling back and had to find someone to stick on. I was placed way back in the pack and struggling after a 200m sprint. Wasn’t feeling great and couldn’t keep up. Last lap I put everything I had left in me, but it still wasn’t enough. Ended up placing way back and wasn’t very happy, I needed about another 5 laps but also need to work on sprinting.

The 1500m was to be held at 2pm with the same amount of people as the 800m. Straight off the gun everyone was sprinting again but I was able to find some early to break the wind for me. I was now placed about 7th but after the 2nd lap I found my rhythm and was gaining places. It was now last lap and I was placed 4th and gaining on 3rd, but it wasn’t enough.

Had a good day down at Canberra the was some fast racing. I placed 1st in the 3km with a time of 9:56, 9th in the 800m and 4th in the 1500m. Need to work on short distance running for better performance. Big thanks to Linebreak for recovery in between and in races, it helped a lot as my legs were very sore. I am now off to state for the 3km which is on the 4th of September.

2/8/09
Sorry for the delay in last weekends reports i was waiting on final results for Sutherland2surf as there were some incorrect placings. I actually came 1st in the U16's and 27th overall. Attached is reports from kj's and S2S.

KEMBLA JOGGERS MT KEMBLA 25/7/09
Saturday afternoon at Mt Kembla was great, there were 4 distances and a trophy to win. There was a 2km, 3km, 3mile and 9mile handicap. The 2km and 3km started at 1:30pm with some fast run times being done and the 3mile which is what I’m doing and 9 mile people off zero started at 2pm. It was sunny and not too cold as there was a good turn out for the day. It was good to see k-Swiss tent up again showcasing their new shoes and gear.
I had rode 70km that morning, but was still feeling good to race hard. I didn’t want to go flat out as I had to race Sutherland2Surf the next day. The siren went off and we were off and running, which I was then leading out the group. I was feeling great, wasn’t tired, out of breath or sore and was ready to race hard. I dropped the group just after the 1.5km mark and was running really well and fast. I was passed the turn around and ready to come home strong. I was now gaining more and more distance on the 2nd runner. I had an easy 1km left so I put everything I had left into it. Heading down the last straight and across the finish line.

Overall was very happy with how I performed, I placed 1st out of 25 with a time of 16:29 for 4.8km. I was surprised how well I ran after riding in the morning and very happy that I did. Time to chuck on linebreak to get ready for the Sutherland to surf, it should be a good day there.

SUTHERLAND2SURF 26/7/09
It was a bit chilli on the morning of the sutherland2surf but it wasn’t too bad. I arrived for an early registration as they were expecting over 7000 competitors. The walkers were to go off first at 8:30am and the runners at 9am to walk or run 11km. I was luck to sneak into the front line of the race as there were 3936 runners behind me.

The gun went off and so were we. There were people everywhere, I started out running with another guy from Kembla joggers which I ran with him until the 4km mark. I was feeling good and was now running with the lead girl and she was fast for 18yrs old. I was able to keep with her until 7km mark which she then made a break. It was starting to hurt now with 4km left but then Aaron Royal passed me, but I was able to keep with him for the rest of the race. Aaron is also a triathlete but is in his early twenties. I had about 500m left and was now sprinting to the line. I came in strong but wasn’t sure were or what time I had done.

Overall great result for the race I felt strong throughout the whole race. I placed 1st for U16’s and 27th out of 7011 runners and walkers with a time of 38mins and 1second which I was very happy with. Big thanks to LINEBREAK for helping with my recovery as the garments work excellent and increased my performance.

22/7/09
DISTRICT ATHLETICS CARNIVAL 26-27/06/09
I had three races over the two days, on Thursday I had my 3km at 9:30am and an 800m at 12:50am. There was a record that I was focused on breaking for the 3km, it was 9:54.7 and I had done 9:56 once at KJ’s. So I was getting ready to race.

The gun went off, had a good start did 40sec for first 200m which I normally do, then set a good pace for the rest. It was me and three other guys out in front leading the race, they were right on my heels up until the 1500m mark they dropped off and I kept my pace hoping to break the record. It came to the last 200m I now had about a 150m lead and started to put on the sprint. I knew I was close to it so I kept pushing, crossed the line and hoped I had broken it. 5mins later over the loudspeaker he announced that I had broken the record that had been standing for 16 years by .4 of a second. I was so happy that I had done it but now had to prepare for the 800m.

The gun went off, 3 people led out the pack straight away I was fourth. After the first 300m they started to slow down and I had caught one and was gaining on the 1st and 2nd. The last 100m they were just too far out to catch but placed third so I was happy.

The next day I had my 1500m, which was also a hard race. It was very quick I led the laps right until the last 150m which a kid then past me to sprint to the line, I tried to keep with him but was too fast. Finished only a second behind him to place 2nd was happy with my race after backing up from the day before.

Was very happy with the outcomes of both days, happy I broke the record and placed 2nd and 3rd in the other events. I am now off to Canberra for Regional in August for all three events, look forward to racing there.

ILLAWARRA TRI CLUB DUATHLON 19/7/09
Was up very early to ride out to the race on Sunday morning. The race was held at Port Kembla for an 8am race start. The morning was great, it was a little cold but as soon as the sun came out it was fine and warm. The race consisted of a 2lap 3,6km run followed by a 6lap 14km bike then a 1lap 1.8km run. The course is hard as there was a headwind on the downhill then a crosswind on the way back up the hill on the bike but the run was good.
We were off and to a good start. I was running second with 3rd and 4th sitting right on me. The first lap of the run was good still placed 2nd and feeling strong. A quater pf the way through the 2nd lap of the run one of the guy’s broke away from us but he didn’t get too far in front. I finished my run coming into transition fourth but I was then quickly out onto the bike in second place. The bike was hard I was lucky I was feeling good. 3 laps into the bike one person overtook me which I then stuck on until another man who flew past me who looked like he was on his first lap. I came into transition 4th and was now onto the 1 lap run which I completed fine and almost caught third.

Was very happy with how I raced. I placed 4th out of 29 with a time of  44:38.

ROAD RELAYS WOLLONGONG 11/7/09
The NSW Road Relay Championships were held in Wollongong near the lighthouse. It was a good start to the day, the sun was shining, there was a great turn out and there was no wind or rain. Our race was to be held at 12:40. The course consisted of 1 steep hill and 1 short hill, we had two 1.5km laps to complete (4x3km). I was last to run in the team and we were currently placed third.

I had a good start straight up the hill towards the lighthouse, then straight back down the other side. I was catching 2nd place quickly, after about 1km I had caught and passed him. He stuck on me for the rest of the lap and a bit of the second which I then made a break and attempted to outrun him. He was now way back and I had 500m left so I put on a sprint, anything I had left in me. I finished strong to place 2nd in the U16 teams.

After the race I found out that I had to back up to race in the U20 A team which was to start at 3pm. We had two 2km laps to complete (4x4km). I wasn’t sure what we were coming as I was to run third in the team. I started well my legs weren’t too sore and I was feeling good. I had a sprint left in me to come home strong. Our team finished 3rd which we were all very happy with.

Overall great day our U16 team placed 2nd with a total time of 41:34 and I did a PB with a time of 9min 29sec for 3km.

Our U20 team placed 3rd overall. I did a time of 13;59 which I was happy with after backing up from another race.
