HWMG team for 2011:
Peter Matthews
Charmaine Foran
Lou Hardy
Wolfgang Pruckner

Tell us about yourselves

As the name implies this team is made up of “mature” people who are all prone to Hobble, Whine, Moan & Groan either during training or on the track competing in the annual Oxfam 100 km off road walking challenge. We are just a bunch of ordinary people who love the outdoors, helping others, walking up hills (that’s crap) and have an underlying friendly competitive spirit.

A team member was recently heard to say, “I look, feel and perform so much better thanks to the new gear from LineBreak”. “We may have to change our team name to reflect the new us thanks to LineBreak!”

This year’s HWM&G team set to conquer the first Melbourne, Sydney & Brisbane Oxfam “Triple Crown” is:

Peter Matthews
Who played rugby as a prop forward when young and then became a tubbier couch potato…
One Saturday he was invited to walk with a friend… 4 Oxfam’s later he has become a regular participant in the event. Peter is a regular TV viewer.

Charmaine Foran
Who being from Dubbo is keen on the flat but lacks enthusiasm for hills. Charmaine was part of the original 2007 HWMG. Although a regular at training for the events since then, has not been a starter again until this year. Charmaine’s motivation for the Oxfam walk is weight loss (of which there will be plenty).

Lou Hardy
Who likes a good red, has recently been training in Bali resulting in the need for a series of regular medical interventions. She has competed in two Oxfam events with HWMG. “Doc” Hardy is a regular bike rider, paddler and runner.

Wolfgang Pruckner
Who is Austrian… therefore a born hill climber who keeps things going well past the time when all we want is to stop. Wolfgang has recently competed with HWMG twice. He is a Legend of Oxfam having competed in 6 events. Wolfgang is a regular runner and paddler.

We did it!!!

Wolfgang, Peter, Tessa & Rachel.

HWMG created history by competing and finishing as a full team of four across the line in the first ever 100km Oxfam Trailwalker “triple crown” of Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane 2011.

Hobble Whine Moan & Groan is a team of four walkers, their support crew and supporters who come together for Oxfam Trailwalker events. I have been proud to coordinate the team over the past few years; bringing together the walkers, the world's best support crew and enticing my wonderful friends to part with their hard earned cash for a good cause.

I have pulled up pretty well considering it has been a bit more than this body should have to cope with! Doing a 100km event every 10 weeks this year (April, June, and August), means there has been little time for complete physical recovery before launching the next assault! While the physical stamina and condition has ebbed and flowed, I’ve been proud to finish each of the three events this year, to have become a Trailwalker Legend, and to have contributed to an event that raises a huge wack of money to help people improve their pretty awful living situations! Having said that, my current thoughts are that this is the end of the trail for me at this time… although this commitment to myself is not as firm today as it was yesterday, so maybe I have more yet???

Thank you everyone for your generous participation with the team, I am truly humbled and very proud of your involvment.
Cheers for now
Peter

Hobble Whine Moan & Groan create history and another Legend while taking part in the first Brisbane Oxfam Trailwalker.
HWMG became part of Oxfam history last weekend tackling the inaugural Brisbane Oxfam Trailwalker. The 100 km course made its way through D'Aguilar National Park just outside Brisbane from Mt Glorious to Mt Coot-tha across some very challenging hills.
The team that came together at the last minute to take on this leg of the triple challenge was Peter Matthews, Wolfgang Pruckner, Nico Jongeling (Melbourne) Brian Baptie (Brisbane). The team melded into a strong supportive group from hill one through to the finish line. The team of four finished in great spirits and in a fantastic time of 26hrs and10mins!
Once again Lynda rallied the support crew Doone & Jen, and with food as a carrot and a cattle prod in hand reinvigorated our efforts to continue along at the support crew checkpoints.
Peter joined Wolfie by becoming a Trailwalker Legend during the event.
Our next challenge is Sydney Oxfam: bring it on... just not in the next week!

HWMG & LINEBREAK SUPPORT THE SUPPORT CREW.
The tables have been turned with Lynda and Belle from the HWMG support crew donning the race gear and being supported by Peter and LineBreak in the Mothers Day Classic 8km run. Lynda and Belle donned the LineBreak and set off to run the Mothers day Classic as a mother daughter team in aid and memory of friends and family and others who have been touched by breast cancer. Lynda, now wearing the LineBreak gear, ran the 8km in a time similar to a previous 7km run! Belle with youth and LineBreak on her side (and no training) just edged out mum. A great result for a great cause.

We all made it!!!

HWMG have achieved a great time of 26 hours and 3 minutes for Melbourne Trailwalker, coming in 151st as a complete team of four from a field of 716 starters, 256/716 all teams, 46 /115 in the over 40 catagory, 124/362 in the family and friends, and First in the satisfied category.

We had the best turned out support crew in their LineBreak tops.

We have decided our efforts were not bad for an ordinary bunch of 4 people aged 48 to 52: non footy glamour boys or supermodels with big… long legs (god we could use some long legs).

We would agree that durability, performance and No Nonsense speaks our language and LineBreak supports our dreams into reality... for the first time we finished as a team of four!

We had a great time taking some pre-race pics of us and the support crew in your gear. We have also some pics from the trail in your gear.

Brisbane Next!
